NSX Introduction

This is a Honda NSX. It is designed, engineering, and manufactured in Takanezawa, Tochigi, Japan. 100% of the parts in this car are of Japanese origin. It is hand assembled by Honda's finest assemblers. It is sold throughout the World as a Honda, except in the United States, where it carries the Acura nameplate. It is considered by many to be the best handling production car in the world. There is no argument that there are, and always will be, those who vigorously disagree... but after reading copious comparisons over the last fifteen years, I can easily say that it is given the title of "Best Handling Car" more than 70% of the time. It is not the fastest, it does not have the best slalom times, and is not the least expensive (or the most expensive)... it is the best handling, easiest and most fun to drive exotic sports car available for use on city streets. The NSX is the only exotic car in the world that you can drive everyday, comfortably, in and out of traffic... without taking it into the shop every month.

Depending on who you talk to, the NSX is comparable in acceleration to a standard C5 Chevrolet Corvette... clocked from 0 to 60 in around 4.9 seconds. This compares to a Pontiac Trans Am at 5.3 seconds, a Porsche 911 Carrera at 4.8 seconds, a Dodge Viper at 4.2 seconds, a Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 at 4.0 seconds, a Porsche 911 Turbo at 3.9 seconds, and a McLaren F1 at 3.4 seconds. I have read many articles that put both the standard Corvette and the NSX at times ranging between 4.5 to 5.7 seconds. It all depends on who's driving, the type of transmission, whether it's a convertible, T-top, hard-top, etc... but the fact remains, it will give you comparable, straight-line acceleration as the standard C5 Corvette for twice the money... yep, that's right... at $89,000 MSRP, the NSX sticker price could be considered a bit steep. This fact alone makes the C5 the performance car "Bargain" of the Century at around $40,000. (This paragraph written in 2000.)

The NSX interior... luxurious!

You may want to ask the question, "Why not just buy a Corvette... or two for the same amount of money?" If you are looking for comparable straight-line acceleration, then save some bucks and buy yourself a C5. If you want the low-end torque that a large displacement American V8 provides, buy a C5. There are a lot of good reasons to buy a Corvette... power, torque, performance, styling, nostalgia, price, and... it's "Made In The USA."

There are a lot of good reasons to buy just about any car. All cars have their pluses and their minuses, and people choose a car based on their own personal likes. If I had an unlimited budget, I would be driving a Ferrari Enzo. But since my budget has clear and definite limits, I choose the NSX. First, because I love the styling. Second, it's a superb piece of engineering demonstrating high-tech applications of material and design. And third, because it's a Honda! Honda has the ergonomics, the fit and finish, and the reliability over practically every other automotive manufacturer in the world. The NSX is a "reliable exotic"... that phrase usually considered an oxymoron. It has a solid, convenient, quiet, and relatively smooth ride. The interior of the NSX is, in a word... "luxurious". The placement of controls are superb... a trait which Honda is known for. It comes standard with leather seats and trim, climate control, air conditioning, power seats, power windows, power door locks, power remote mirrors, electronic power steering, traction control, a high-end sound system, power antenna, convenience outlet and cup holders <grin>.
